Kelsey is a journalist and academic based in Des Moines, Iowa. She is the music correspondent for Christianity Today, where she writes about congregational worship, the music industry, and sacred music more broadly.

 

Her first book, In the Way They Should Go, is forthcoming with Brazos in fall of 2025. It examines the historical and ideological underpinnings of popular Christian parenting literature.

 

Kelsey is also an adjunct professor at Grand View University, where she teaches courses in music, theology, and social justice. She holds a PhD from the University of Iowa, where she also spent a decade at the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights as a researcher and educator.
